The BFC is looking for an experienced Senior Business Development Coordinator for maternity cover, to deliver business development and support to BFC designers, department activation such as seminars and workshops, and manage Business Development input across a range of BFC projects and initiatives. You will display excellent communication and relationship skills, a solid understanding of fashion as a business, and have experience working directly with brands and designers.  


Business Development with designers:

  • Responsible for specific pro-active deliverables with NEWGEN designers on Business Development areas, ensuring that each designer is receiving relevant & tailored support
  • Address and resolve challenges and issues that arise with designers, often working with external partners to do so
  • Develop and maintain key designer relationships with current and previous NEWGEN designers, plus relationships across other designer initiatives such as Boden Future British, Rock Vault, Headonism, Fashion Trust and London show Rooms
  • Deliver Business Development events such as seminars (‘Fashion Labs’) and mentoring days (‘Mentor Labs’) to a high standard with key business and fashion industry partners, devising relevant and current agendas and content for the audience
  • Support externally on Business Development touch points with other Fashion Industry organisations


  • Support the Business Development Advisor & work with them on planning events, sharing updates on designer business progress, and other projects and initiative updates & activation
  • Work with the Business Development Advisor on content maintenance and creation for information platform (Designer Fact File), managing contributors, helping to improve UX design, and further developing the platform
  • Contribute to weekly Senior Management reports and quarterly Board reports

Initiative & Project management/involvement:

  • Ensure that Business Development activity and input is relevant and up-to-date for each initiative & project across BFC portfolio
  • Input into designer selection days by supplying relevant information for team and panels
  • Work with Designer Relations team to understand all areas designers are receiving wider BFC support, and deliver initiative-specific mentoring & other events/activation
  • Introduce & on-board new designers to BFC Business Development support


  • On-site for London Fashion Week & London Fashion Week Men’s, available if necessary to help staff for London Fashion Week Festival
  • On-site for London show Rooms Paris, to support designers, hold business development meetings, and maintain relationships
  • Deliver Business Development department events, supported by the Events team
  • Manage dinner event for partners & mentors for the Fashion Awards
  • Work calmly and methodically to address any logistical or designer issues onsite at all events, supporting the Events and Designer Relations teams

Internal Relationships:

  • Work with all other BFC teams to ensure cohesive strategy delivery and excellent cross-team communication
  • Working primarily with teams: Designer Relations, Commercial Partnerships, Events, Communications, Government and Education, plus working very closely with BFC Strategic Consultants 

External Relationships:

  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with initiative designers 
  • Maintain strong departmental relationships with partners and mentors (industry experts, business industry partners including lawyers, accountants, banks, creative agencies and e-commerce platforms)
  • Maintain positive & collaborative relationships with other fashion industry organisations
  • Support other teams’ relationships with external key stakeholders such as sponsors, patrons & government departments
  • Act as a point of contact for queries/concerns raised both internally and externally and refer questions to wider team as necessary

Business & Financial Management:

  • Support on budget monitoring, invoices, & basic legal documents such as contracts & commercial agreements
  • Manage very tight deadlines 

Requirements & Key Attributes - Skills & Requirements

  • Excellent relationship and communication skills face-to-face, on phone and via email
  • Will have at least six years previous business experience within fashion
  • Knowledge of UK and international designer brands, fashion business model, financial systems, commercial legal basics (IP, contracts, commercial law etc.), other relevant business areas
  • Understanding and sympathetic of challenges early-stage designer businesses face, with the knowledge, experience and attitude to help overcome them
  • Ability to project manage and multi-task autonomously
  • Can prioritise tasks in order of importance to ensure delivery with tight deadlines
  • Ability to remain calm, diplomatic, polite, composed, and resolution-focused
  • Exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail and follow-through on all tasks and admin duties, keeping folders and databases updated
  • Create and compose correspondence, with perfect formatting and grammar in a business environment, and able to adapt tone for different contacts/audiences
  • Positive outlook with an enthusiastic, friendly and warm approach
  • Highly driven and excellent attention to detail
  • Willing to ‘muck-in’ to get things done
  • Advanced IT skills in Microsoft Word and Excel essential

Salary & Benefits

  • Job type: full time, temporary to cover a maternity leave, from mid-August 2017
  • Salary Band: £TBC, dependant on experience
  • Standard company benefits, including 25 days annual holiday + bank holidays + Christmas Eve
  • Summer working hours (July & August)
  • Standard company working hours are 09.30 – 17.30, flexibility is required during events
  • Confirmation of appointment and eligibility to benefits, subject to successful completion of a three month probationary period
  • This salary is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This is due to the BFC being a recipient of ERDF funds and as such employees are required to keep a record, via monthly time sheets, of the work undertaken relating to ERDF funded activities.
